Gas shortage hits Bengaluru hotels; tea and coffee sales reduced, prices rise

Bengaluru: The gas shortage in Bengaluru continues to affect hotels and industries, with several eateries stopping the sale of tea and coffee and offering only limited food items for restricted hours.

Due to the shortage, many hotels have stopped preparing items like tea and coffee that require more gas. Operating hours have also been reduced. Hotels are now open from morning until 12:30 pm and again from 5 pm to 8 pm.

The situation has also affected workers. Many hotel employees have lost their jobs, while some others have gone back to their hometowns due to lack of work.

Prices of food items in most hotels have increased by Rs 10 to Rs 30. Hotel staff said that prices will return to normal only after the gas supply issue is fully resolved. The number of customers visiting hotels has reportedly dropped by around 50 per cent, leading to heavy financial losses for hotel owners.

Industries show recovery

Meanwhile, industries in areas like Peenya have shown some improvement. PNG (piped natural gas) supply has been provided in Peenya, which has helped factories resume operations.

Industrial units in Bengaluru are now functioning close to normal levels. Though the sector faced initial disruption, operations have largely stabilised.

However, occasional issues due to gas shortage still continue. FKCCI President Uma Reddy said that industries are managing the situation as it arises.
