Umm Al Quwain: An Indian expat was injured on Wednesday, April 1, after debris from a drone fell near an industrial facility in the Umm Al Thuoob industrial area in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a statement shared on Umm Al Quwain Government Media Office’s Instagram account, it said the incident occurred following the successful interception of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) by air defence systems. Fragments from the intercepted drone landed near one of the facilities in the area, causing the injury.

Emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the site and provided medical assistance to the injured individual. No other casualties or significant property damage were reported.

The incident follows a similar occurrence in Fujairah, where a Bangladeshi national was killed after debris from an intercepted drone fell on a farm in the Al Rifa area. No other casualties were reported.

Both incidents come amid heightened regional tensions, with UAE authorities maintaining a high level of vigilance as air defence systems continue to intercept aerial threats.

According to data released by the UAE Ministry of Defence on April 1, air defence systems intercepted 35 UAVs, and five ballistic missiles within 24 hours. In total, authorities said 2012 drones, 19 cruise missiles and 438 ballistic missiles have been intercepted since the escalation began on February 28.

Authorities also said that 12 people have been killed in the UAE since the start of the escalation, while 190 others have been injured.

Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on March 31 that eight Indian nationals have lost their lives, while one remains missing, in various incidents across the region, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).

Authorities in the UAE have urged the public to avoid spreading rumours and to rely only on official sources for accurate information, adding that the situation remains under control.
