New episodes of an 'iconic' comedy series have been added to ITVX, much to the delight of fans who can't get enough.
Devotees of the long-standing animated series Futurama can now enjoy some of the most recent episodes at no additional cost.
Although the original series first premiered in 1999, it was cancelled twice only to make two triumphant returns.
The original synopsis reveals that the show's premise begins when pizza-delivery bot Fry accidentally freezes himself on New Year's Eve 1999 and wakes up 1,000 years in the future.
He is taken in by his sole descendant, a senile and confused scientist who owns a small cargo delivery service.
The other crew members include Captain Leela, accountant Hermes, janitor Scruffy, intern Amy, obnoxious robot Bender and the crew's unfortunate crustacean medical officer Dr Zoidberg.
After all these years, we continue to be treated to more of their space adventures. Co-created by Matt Groening, the same creative genius behind The Simpsons, the show has experienced more than one revival, reports the Mirror.
Following its initial cancellation in 2003, it returned with several feature-length specials. These were initially released as straight-to-DVD films before being broadcast on TV between 2008 and 2009, with Hulu subsequently commissioning brand new seasons in 2010 exclusively for its streaming platform, which is now part of Disney+.
Now, those yet to discover the Hulu revival of Futurama are in for a real delight, as one of the latest seasons, Season 12, has just been made available on ITVX.
Should you require additional content, you'll need to subscribe to Disney+ to gain access to all 13 broadcast seasons of the programme (including the specials).
The season recently added to ITVX features episodes where Bender journeys to his ancestral village in Mexico, a mysterious temporary worker assumes Fry's position and Leela befriends a possessive chat bot.
While it isn't the highest rated season of the programme when examining its scores on website Rotten Tomatoes, fans continue to commend it for delivering memorable moments.
One critic suggests that the season contains "one of the most unsettling Futurama episodes ever, and speaks to the effective ways the show can embrace horror while still retaining its silly elements."
While another contributed: "its classic silly, goofy, slapstick-style comedy is back and better than ever. With the amazing cast of John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil Lamar, and David Herman returning it is like they never left."
One enthusiast was equally delighted with the season, stating: "This is an iconic show. So smart and funny and genius. Futurama is the dignity of the TV industry. Many people grew up with this and it keeps getting better. I loved this season."
Futurama is streaming on ITVX and Disney+.
