Coronation Street fans are speculating that a soap icon could be returning to kindle a romance with Bethany Platt.

Bethany made her first appearance on the soap when she was born on-screen as Sarah's (Tina O'Brien) daughter. Now portrayed by Lucy Fallon, Bethany has been embroiled in several major storylines over the years.

From being groomed to undergoing botched surgery, Bethany's stint in Weatherfield has been anything but drama-free. The character also made her soap return in October last year, following the conclusion of actress Lucy's maternity leave.

This week on the soap, Bethany disclosed that she was going on a blind date with a chap named Ethan whom she met online. Despite initial hesitations, Bethany was encouraged by her loved ones to proceed.

However, wicked Jodie Ramsay (Olivia Frances-Brown) craftily messaged Ethan from Bethany's phone, informing him the date was cancelled and to never contact her again, reports the Daily Star.

In Wednesday's episode (April 1), Bethany went to the Bistro for her date. After waiting for a considerable time, she phoned Ethan who responded harshly, leaving her alone on the date.

Now, amidst Bethany's relationship woes, fans believe they have 'figured out' her Mr Right. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers have predicted the return of Craig Harris (Richard Fleeshman).

"They need to get Craig Harris back for Bethany," one individual suggested. Another concurred: "Oh yes." A third chimed in: "I've always thought he should return, he was popular." Another person commented: "Would be interesting to see if he comes back."

Devotees will remember that Craig made his first appearance on the soap in 2002 with his family, the Harrises, composed of father Tommy Harris (Thomas Craig), mother Angela Harris (Kathryn Hunt) and sister Katy (Lucy-Jo Hudson).

The family arrived in Weatherfield as part of a witness protection scheme - and they quickly stirred up some drama. Moreover, young Craig played a significant role in several dramatic storylines during his tenure.

In 2005, he lost his entire family when sister Katy killed their father Tommy in a fit of rage, and their mother Angela took the blame. Unable to cope with the guilt, Katy later took her own life.

The character also embarked on a romance with Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan) and became her first boyfriend. Craig even planned to elope to Berlin with Rosie.

However, in 2006, Craig ended up departing alone and bid farewell to the cobbles. Since then, actor Richard has kept himself occupied, featuring in shows such as Call the Midwife and Death in Paradise.
