Bengaluru: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested five persons at Kempegowda International Airport for attempting to smuggle gold concealed inside private parts of their bodies. Gold worth around ₹5 crore, weighing 3.356 kg, was seized from them.
All five accused are Bangladesh nationals. Officials said the accused were trying to smuggle gold with the help of local contacts. Recently, an international smuggling network has been attempting to bring gold through Terminal 2 of the airport.
Acting on specific information, DRI officials conducted an operation and detained the five individuals. During the inspection, gold in the form of bars and paste packed in capsule-shaped packets was recovered.
Officials stated that the accused had hidden the gold in different parts of their bodies to avoid detection and transport it illegally.
