Business Desk – Walt Disney Layoffs 2026: Walt Disney is preparing to reduce up to 1,000 jobs in the coming weeks. Many of these jobs will be reduced in the company’s marketing department. This news has been given by The Wall Street Journal, which has cited sources familiar with the matter.
It has been told that plans for these layoffs were already underway. Before Josh D’Amaro assumed his new role as Disney’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in March. Reportedly, the company is taking this step to reduce expenses and streamline its operations.
Disney says that, in these changing times, it has become necessary to control expenses and simplify operations. These layoffs will be done in a planned manner. It is estimated that less than 1 percent of the company’s total employees may be affected by this move.
231,000 employees by FY 2025
By the end of fiscal year 2025, Disney employed approximately 231,000 people. The report also notes that Disney’s new chief marketing officer, Asad Ayaz, plans to unify the company’s marketing group and cut expenses.
He is carrying forward this initiative under the codename “Project Imagine”. Ayaz began overseeing a new marketing organizational structure within the company in January.
Previous layoffs at Disney
Earlier, Walt Disney had laid off hundreds of employees in June 2025. At the time, these layoffs affected the film, TV, marketing, publicity, casting, development and corporate finance departments. In 2023, Disney made massive layoffs; The company eliminated 7,000 jobs in an effort to save $5.5 billion.
