Child 'killed by dog bite' in UK town as armed police rush to destroy animal

A child is believed to have died as a result of a dog bite, with police launching an investigation into the youngster's death. Cleveland Police arrived at a property on Hardale Drive in Dormanstown, Redcar, this afternoon (April 9) shortly after 1.30pm following "concerns for a child".

Upon arriving at the property, the youngster had died, the force said, adding "the child is believed to have died as a result of a dog bite". Armed officers killed a dog on the street while another dog at the property was recovered by police. There is currently a scene in place while the force start an investigation. Emily Harrison, District Commander for Redcar and Cleveland, described the incident as "distressing and tragic", while also urging anyone who has concerns or information to speak to a police officer.

She said: "Understandably this is a distressing and tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the child's family.

"There is a scene in place at the address while an investigation into the child's death begins.

"I would encourage anyone who has concerns or information to please speak to an officer."
