The Met Office has forecast snow to hit the UK on Saturday as Spring conditions are delayed by wintry showers for some.

The weather agency's forecast for Friday evening heading into Saturday says snow is possible for parts of Scotland.

This comes despite the UK seeing its hottest temperatures of the year so far, with the mercury surpassing 26C in some areas on Wednesday.

The Met Office's forecast for Friday night and overnight into Saturday states: "Rain, heavy at times, edging slowly eastwards through the evening and overnight. Some snow is also possible over the Scottish mountains. Clear spells and blustery showers following. Windy for all, with gales in the northwest."

The forecast for Saturday daytime adds: "Rain across central and eastern areas soon clearing. Showers following for most, these heavy in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Windy with coastal gales in the west. Temperatures near average."

It comes as the Met Office has issued a high pollen count warning to most of the UK between today and Sunday - and has also warned dog owners to be aware of it too.

PDSA vet Olivia Anderson-Nathan said: "While the cause of the allergies is the same in pets as it is in humans, the signs can be a little different. In humans, you might expect a runny nose, watery eyes and feeling short of breath, but these signs are much rarer in our pets."

Signs include redness of the skin, especially around the eyes and ears and in between the paws, shaking their head and rubbing their ears or muzzle
