Eamonn Holmes is currently recovering in hospital after he suffered a stroke. The GB News presenter, 66, has been absent from his Breakfast Show in recent weeks. It has been reported the former This Morning star fell ill on Tuesday and has been on a ward since then. A health update was announced by the broadcaster on Saturday as they issued a statement.

It read: "Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment.

"Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better. His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People's Channel when he is ready to return."

The presenter has been due to return GB News Breakfast next week alongside his co-presenter Ellie Costello. The pair front the show from Monday through to Wednesday.

Alex Armstrong has been announced as his temporary replacement in Eamonn's absence.

Angelos Frangopoulos, the CEO of GB News, said: "Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we're with him every step of the way as he recovers."

The presenter joined the channel in 2022 to present its breakfast programme.

He had not been seen on air since March 11 - when he sparked concern after appearing to fall asleep during an interview with Darren Jones, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister.

Viewers called for him to be taken off air - exclaiming "he's obviously struggling".

The early morning clip showed Eamonn fiddling with his mic pack before zoning out with his eyes shut. A few seconds later he lifted his head.

The moment came just days after the ex This Morning host opened up about his "horrendous" health battle.

His health woes began back in 2021, after he suffered three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis and began using a wheelchair the following year after undergoing surgery.

He is now being supported by carers on a daily basis.

Speaking about his health issues last month, Eamonn said: "Well obviously I've been better. I've got this back and paralysis problem which has been with me now for three years."

He added, "It's terrible to come to terms with.

"The thing is, nobody seems to know what the problem is so I just stick with it and hopefully they'll find a cure one day."

Eamonn split from his wife Ruth Langsford in 2024 and is currently in a relationship with marriage counsellor Katie.
