Tragic Delivery Incident in Uttar Pradesh

A distressing event unfolded in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, where a newborn's head became lodged in the mother's womb during delivery in an ambulance. This incident occurred on April 8, prompting the family of the mother to file a complaint at the Kalwari police station. Fortunately, the mother's condition is reported to be stable following the emergency operation performed by doctors at a medical college.

The incident took place when Neeraj's wife, Prema Devi, who was seven months pregnant, experienced labor pains and was transported to Banraha Community Health Center (CHC) via ambulance. Allegations have surfaced that the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) administered a pain relief injection without proper examination and attempted to deliver the baby in the ambulance. During this process, the newborn's body was reportedly pulled, resulting in the separation of the head from the torso, leaving the head trapped in the womb.

In a state of panic, the ANM and other staff referred the mother to a private hospital, where her condition was deemed critical, leading to her transfer to a medical college. The medical team acted swiftly, and Assistant Professor Dr. Kalpana Mishra conducted an examination, confirming the head's entrapment. An immediate operation was performed to safely extract the newborn's head.

The mother’s father-in-law, Durga Prasad, has lodged a complaint against the ANM Kusum at the Kalwari police station, alleging negligence that resulted in the tragic incident. Station Officer Santosh Kumar confirmed that an investigation is underway. Dr. Ashwani, the in-charge medical officer at CHC Kudraha, stated that the family arrived with the pregnant woman, and upon realizing the severity of the situation, they referred her to a higher center for care.
