The rivalry between the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru is getting spicier with every passing season, and in the ongoing IPL, things may have gotten a bit out of hand. After a reported ”ill-treatment of their players” in their recent match on April 5 at Chinnaswamy Stadium, the CSK management has now filed a complaint against the RCB management with the BCCI.
What happened on Chinnaswamy
The CSK management has complained that the DJ at the stadium played a song that stereotypes Tamil people with the words “Dosa, idli, sambhar, chutney, chutney.” The song, composed by musician Gana Appu, is widely used in reels and memes to stereotype Tamilians.

The song had already been at the centre of a previous controversy between these two teams. In the 2025 IPL, RCB player Jitesh Sharma sang it in a viral clip ahead of a match between the two teams, inciting a severe reaction from CSK fans who trolled him online. The issue was put to rest after the CSK management stepped in to advise fans not to target players of other teams. Now, the song has taken centre stage again.
CSK lodges official complaint
According to a report published in the Indian Expressa senior IPL official confirmed that the governing council has received a complaint from the CSK management. The unnamed official was quoted as saying, “We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it.”
CSK’s managing director Kasi Viswanathan also told the publication that the DJ’s behaviour went beyond mere support for RCB. “Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it,” he was quoted as saying.
It is also confirmed that CSK’s official complaint has documented objections to certain comments made by the DJ through the public announcement system whenever CSK players were dismissed during the match.
A rivalry with deep roots
The on-field bitterness has a long pedigree. CSK and RCB have faced each other since the very first IPL season in 2008, and across 36 encounters, the Super Kings have dominated with 21 wins to RCB’s 14, with one match ending in ano result. CSK have claimed the IPL title five times, all under MS Dhoni’s leadership, while RCB finished as runners-up on three occasions before finally ending their trophy drought by winning their maiden IPL title in 2025.

That title win has changed the complexion of this rivalry, adding an entirely new dimension to every encounter between the two sides. In IPL 2026, the contrast is stark: RCB have had the upper hand in the current season, registering a dominant 43-run win over CSK, making it four straight wins in head-to-head matchups, while CSK have lost three consecutive games with playoff hopes fading with each defeat. With the two sides not scheduled to meet again in the league stage, their next potential clash would only come in the playoffs — if CSK maange to get there. Given the bad blood now seeping off the field, such an encounter would carry even more heat than usual.
