Lahore. Aamir Hamza, co-founder of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group, was shot and injured in an attack by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle in Lahore on Thursday. Police gave this information. Hamza is considered the second most important leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba after Hafiz Saeed. Saeed has been lodged in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail since 2019 after serving several years in prison in terror financing cases.

According to police, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the vehicle of private TV channel ’24 NewsHD TV’ owned by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The channel’s religious program host Justice (retd) Nazir Ahmed Ghazi and Hamza were traveling in the vehicle. “Near the TV channel office on Peko Road, Lahore, two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on the car in which Ghazi and Hamza were travelling,” police said.

Hamza was shot in this attack while Ghazi narrowly escaped. He said that Hamza has been admitted to the hospital. Police said they have started investigating the incident with the help of CCTV footage to trace the attackers. TV host Justice Nazir Ghazi survived the firing in Lahore while Maulana Aamir Hamza was injured, the TV channel said in a statement.

Ghazi is the host of the program ‘Noor-e-Sahar’ on ’24 NewsHD TV’, the channel said. “Gazi was on his way home after recording his show at the City News office in Lahore,” the statement said.

Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML), the political wing of Hafiz Saeed’s banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa, strongly condemned the attack on Hamza and demanded that those involved in the incident be immediately arrested. The party also called on the government to ensure effective protection for “religious scholars”. Hamza has been declared a terrorist by America. Earlier he was the head of the “Special Operations” department of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
