digital desk- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has once again launched a scathing attack on Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP). In his statement released on social media platform Taking aim at the Congress, Mayawati said that it is the same party which, while in power at the Centre, did not take any concrete steps to fully implement the reservation quota. He accused the Congress of “changing colors like a chameleon” and said that now when women’s reservation is being talked about, the party is trying to woo these sections.
Congress did not take any initiative in implementing the recommendations of Mandal Commission
He further said that Congress had not taken any initiative in implementing 27 percent reservation for the OBC community as per the recommendations of the Mandal Commission. According to Mayawati, this reservation was implemented due to the efforts of BSP in the government of former Prime Minister VP Singh, which was a historic step. Attacking SP, Mayawati said that the SP government had ignored the report of the Backward Classes Commission in 1994 to provide OBC benefits to backward Muslims in Uttar Pradesh. He claimed that the BSP government formed in 1995 immediately implemented this report. According to Mayawati, now the same SP is talking about giving separate reservation to women of these classes for political gains.
SP had different attitudes while in power and in opposition.
The BSP chief also said that the attitude of SP is different when it is in power and when it is in opposition. Terming it as politics of “double character”, he said that when SP is in power, its attitude becomes narrow and casteist, whereas when in opposition, it speaks a different language. On the issue of women’s reservation, Mayawati, referring to the delimitation based on the 2011 census, said that if the government wants to implement it soon, then steps should be taken on this basis. He also alleged that if Congress was in power at the Center today, it would have taken the same decision like BJP. In her statement, Mayawati also said that no political party has been completely serious about the real interests and welfare of SC, ST, OBC and Muslim community in the country. He warned these sections that they should not get “misled” by such parties and should focus on making themselves self-reliant.
