He may not have hit his third fifty in IPL 2026 during the match against KKR on Sunday, but the mystery that is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi just keeps building his reputation. This season, he’s earned the title of the best powerplay batter, smashing his way to 46 runs off 28 balls before being dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy. Notably, he scored 38 runs from 21 balls in the powerplay, helping the Rajasthan Royals reach a solid 63/0 in just 6 overs, setting the stage for a huge total.

Is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Better Than the Very Best?

Sure, some might overlook this innings since Sooryavanshi has had even better performances in the past; however, it’s his consistency and the speed at which he accumulates runs that truly stand out. At just 15 years old, he’s setting benchmarks that might be tough for him to beat in the future, let alone for others.

So, what makes us label him the ‘best batter in powerplay for IPL 2026’? Is it just the runs or the strike rate? It’s really a mix of both. According to the stats, Sooryavanshi has racked up 217 runs in the powerplay alone, boasting an impressive strike rate of 256, which puts him ahead of some of the game’s legends. This includes 23 fours and 18 sixes during this period, again far surpassing his competitors.

Keep in mind, this comes after he was dismissed for a duck in the previous match against SRH; yet, his overall performance has been so stellar that his numbers haven’t taken a significant hit. Speaking of competitors, Virat Kohli is in second place with 161 runs over 6 innings, but his strike rate is notably lower at 173, with only 4 sixes to his name.

Even big hitters like Abhishek Sharma and Priyansh Arya are trailing behind. The SRH opener has managed 157 runs in the powerplay this season, with a strike rate of 253, while Arya has only scored 112 runs with a strike rate of 243. As for Sooryavanshi, teams still haven’t cracked the code to stop him, and he’s even notched up two 15-ball fifties this season, the fastest of the year.
