M62 drivers are facing traffic chaos during the evening rush hour following a huge multi-vehicle crash that has resulted in one of them catching fire. The major UK motorway is closed in both directions in West Yorkshire between junction 29 (M1) and junction 30 near Oulton. Emergency services have rushed to the scene.
The AA has warned drivers they face "severe delays" of up to 109 minutes. Motorway camera footage shows traffic on the motorway leading up to the incident at a complete standstill. National Highways said: "The M62 in West Yorkshire is closed in both directions between J29 (M1) and J30 near Oulton following a multi-vehicle collision, during which one vehicle caught fire. Although the incident occurred on the eastbound carriageway, the westbound side has also been closed as a precaution due to one of the vehicles carrying potentially hazardous materials. All emergency services are currently on scene and responding to the incident."
