The Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma scored his second hundred in the Indian Premier League on April 21 against Delhi Capitals in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. His century came in just 47 balls, smashing 7 boundaries and 9 sixes. With this, he equalled Virat Kohli's record of most T20 centuries as an Indian batter.
Virat Kohli had 9 centuries in T20s with 8 coming from the IPL itself. With the century today, Abhishek surpassed Rohit Sharma's record of 8 T20 centuries and joined Virat Kohli.
Most centuries by an Indian in T20
| Player | Centuries |
| Virat Kohli | 9 |
| Abhsihek Sharma | 9 |
| Rohit Sharma | 8 |
Even after Travis Head got dismissed, Abhishek kept the scoreboard running. Abhishek reached his fifty in just 25 balls and then continued to reach the 100-mark landmark in just 45 balls. However, Delhi's fielding contributed a bit to this, dropping him twice, especially Nitish Rana dropping him at 86 off T. Natarajan in the 14th over, despite covering the ground well. Notably, he reached his century in the 15th over by hitting back-to-back sixes off Nitish Rana.
With the final six going over the boundary, Abhishek had a small moment where he stood non-chalantly before unleashing his famous L-celebration.
Ironically, Abhishek produced his first IPL hundred in the same stadium last season against the Punjab Kings when he showed the famous note, "This is for the Orange Army."
Abhishek Sharma enters elite list with 2000 runs for SRH
Earlier, Abhishek Sharma created a record of being the fourth player to score 2000 or more runs for the SRH. Only David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson have the most runs for the side.
Notably, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished at 242 runs with Abhishek standing not out at 135 off 68 balls. Ishan Kishan sustained a very unfortunate run out at the non-striker's end. Following that, it was Heinrick Klasses, who scored 37 runs of 13 balls, which gave the required push to the scoreboard.
