A royal biographer has claimed that Princess Eugenie's husband was left alarmed by a demand made by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor concerning their wedding. Princess Eugenie, 36, wed Jack Brooksbank, 39, on October 12, 2018.
According to royal author Hugo Vickers in his book Queen Elizabeth II A Personal History, Andrew "persuaded" a company to film the wedding after it became clear that none of the major networks would provide coverage, but Mr Brooksbank was "alarmed" that Andrew "insisted" on a procession through Windsor.
He wrote: "On 12 October 2018 Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank in St George's Chapel. This was a happier wedding.
"It did not attract as much publicity, and the Duke of York was annoyed that it would not be filmed for the major networks, though he persuaded a company to record it.
"The groom was alarmed that Prince Andrew insisted on a procession through Windsor, afraid that no one would be there to cheer them. But Windsor loves a procession and there was a good crowd."
The assertion regarding Princess Eugenie's wedding emerges alongside questions about the future roles she and her sister Princess Beatrice will occupy within the Royal Family.
This speculation has been circulating due to the repercussions from questions surrounding Andrew's association with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.
As she celebrated her 36th birthday earlier this year, a prominent royal journalist expressed hope that a means could be found for both Beatrice and Eugenie to carve out a role within the Royal Family.
Matt Wilkinson stated his belief that King Charles was keen to do his utmost to incorporate the pair, following a period of "crisis" they had endured.
Matt explained: "I've got sympathy for both Beatrice and Eugenie, and I'd like to see them somehow rehabilitated and used properly in the Royal Family.
"I think the King wants her, wants them both, to not pay for the sins of their parents, but I'm not sure there is mass public sympathy for them at the moment. They're probably going through a complete and utter personal crisis."
Mr Wilkinson went on to say that, fortunately, both sisters had robust support networks surrounding them, including their husbands, who would assist them in navigating this challenging period.
He added: "I don't like bad things to happen to people when they haven't actually done anything wrong themselves, but I think they can cope.
"I think there are enough support structures around them and enough money. Their husbands are both very supportive and rich, so I think they'll be able to cope."
As recently as last month, Eugenie was photographed in Switzerland enjoying a skiing holiday with her family, though she reportedly maintained a low profile on her birthday.
ReachPlc has approached Mr Brooksbank for comment over the matter in relation to his wedding.
