Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has sought a detailed report from the Gujarat government following a mass food‑poisoning incident at a wedding in the state, as the agency steps up coordination with local authorities. The incident occurred at a wedding feast in Abhlod village, Dahod district, where over 400 guests fell ill after consuming food served at the celebration. Most of the affected guests reported symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, stomach pain and dizziness within a short period of eating the meals, prompting urgent medical teams to be deployed from nearby healthcare facilities.

Since food‑safety enforcement is a state‑level function, FSSAI has formally requested the Gujarat government to submit a comprehensive account of the incident, including the type and number of catering workers, storage and preparation conditions, and the nature of the food served. FSSAI officials are now on the ground at the wedding site, assisting state health and food‑safety teams with the collection of food and drink samples to be sent for laboratory testing. The sequence of sample collection, environmental hygiene checks, and documentation of the preparation and serving chain is being closely monitored by central and local food‑safety authorities.

Health officials in Dahod have confirmed that food samples from the wedding premises have been secured and forwarded to accredited laboratories for analysis, with results expected in the coming days. The FSSAI has indicated that the laboratory findings will be shared “soon” and that appropriate legal action will be initiated against individuals or entities found responsible for lapses in hygiene, storage, or handling that led to the outbreak. The incident has also triggered renewed emphasis on the enforcement of basic catering‑safety guidelines at large‑scale events such as weddings, including proper temperature control, safe water use and vendor‑licensing checks
