The match between Trinidad & Tobago and Leeward Islands was interrupted by a scary incident when the batter received a nasty blow to the head from a rising delivery. The incident, that went viral instantly, sparked serious questions over player safety, and more specifically, pitch safety standards.
The batter received the delivery from a good length when it suddenly reared up sharply from the pitch and hit the batter on the head area. After the delivery, the batter could not stay balanced on his feet and fell onto the ground, giving some scares.
After getting back to his feet, the played displayed his frustration and kicked his helmet, which had been removed a moment ago, when it came his way. A few moments later, play was stopped and both teams walked off the ground stating an unsafe surface for play.
Play Halted Due to Dangerous Pitch
Watch the video here:
The surface appeared a tricky and dangerous surface, throughout the spell; the ball struck the batter did rise unusually sharply from a normal good length, which was quite difficult for the batter to judge the bounce.
Such an inconsistent bounce produced a serious risk for injury, after which it was understood that play should be stopped and for that reason, play was stopped so that the players are in no harm. The incident proved the importance of safety at such times when the pitch is not having the proper bounce and it is very difficult for the batsmen to play normally.
Such type of incidents are not the first to be seen in cricket, and every time a such incident occurs it surely brings new questions about the pitch and player safety, on this case, this was just the worst surface for the contest.

Jayden Seales on Fire Before Stoppage
Prior to the stoppage, Jayden Seales has been bowling what has arguably been a fantastic spell for Trinidad & Tobago. Seven wickets were taken by the West Indies fast bowler who has absolutely run through the opposing batting line-up.
At one point, Seales was in line to be the third man ever to take ten wickets in an innings. The bowler was incredibly quick, accurate and with the help of the tricky surface was almost unplayable.
Sadly for Seales, his magnificent spell was brought to an end due to the hazardous nature of the surface. The potential record-breaking achievement was not to be.
Safety was more important than the results of the game and more importantly than records, the umpires deemed that play had to stop to avoid the potential of more injuries. The event is a clear example that even though the desire for success is there the player's safety should be of the highest importance in the game.
