India is targeting 100% ethanol vehicles to reduce oil imports and energy self-sufficiency. The government will soon introduce E85 (85% ethanol) fuel. Hydrogen will also be promoted as the fuel of the future.
New Delhi: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a big announcement. He has said that India is aiming to make vehicles running on 100% ethanol a reality in the coming years. The objective of the government is to make the country self-reliant in the field of energy. This step is also important because due to the war-like situation in Western Asian countries, the supply of crude oil in the international market is being affected. Gadkari clearly said that now the country will have to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and move towards better alternatives for the environment.
At present, India buys 87% of its petrol requirement from other countries. A huge expenditure of about Rs 22 lakh crore is incurred on this every year. Speaking at the 'Green Transport Conclave', Gadkari cited the example of Brazil, where 100% ethanol fuel is being used successfully. He said that this is a great model for India. He also clarified that the new fuel efficiency rules to be implemented from April 2025 will not be applicable to electric and flex-fuel vehicles.
Describing hydrogen as the fuel of the future, Gadkari said, "We have to move towards making hydrogen from waste." He said that if we bring the cost of making one kg of hydrogen down to one dollar, India can become the world's largest energy exporter. He also assured that no one will be forced to give up petrol-diesel vehicles, but vehicle manufacturing companies should bring good quality alternative fuel vehicles in the market. He also appealed to reject the false propaganda being spread against ethanol mixing.
master plan of the center
The Central Government is now moving forward on such a big plan, due to which the vehicles in the country will run largely on alcohol (Ethanol) instead of petrol. The government is soon going to release draft rules for 'E85' fuel. E85 means mixing 85% ethanol in petrol. This will be a revolutionary change in the country, which is a big step forward from the E20 (petrol with 20% ethanol) currently being used. When the tension in West Asia has shaken the oil market of the entire world, then this is being considered as India's master plan to cut oil imports.
