The 41-year-old Portuguese icon has repeatedly expressed his long-held desire to share a competitive pitch with his eldest son during the final years of his decorated career.
According to Saudi media, Al Nassr management is now closely monitoring the teenager’s physical development to determine the best pathway for his senior career.
While getting promoted to the first team does not immediately guarantee a starting role, it is a huge step for the young forward.
Affectionately known as Cristianinho, the teenager turns 16 in June 2026 and has already established himself as a highly notable talent within Al Nassr’s youth academy. Much like his father, he is a forward who can play well on either flank or as a traditional striker.

Promoting young prospects to the first team for training sessions is a transitional phase utilized by top clubs, allowing players to experience the highly competitive environment and learn from seasoned professionals. Those who perform well in training sessions will have a chance to play.
Ronaldo continues to maintain impressive form in the Saudi Pro League, remaining a prolific scorer for Al Nassr this season. However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner openly admits that time is rapidly running out to make his dream of playing with his son a reality.
“The years are starting to pass and obviously Cris will have to, one day, leave football, because the years I’m extending… There will come a time when it’s no longer possible,” he said earlier this year, as quoted by Daily Mail. “Not only physically but psychologically. But I also don’t see it as an obsession. He will follow his path, his trajectory. I will be a proud father, I will be proud of whatever he wants to do. If he plays, ‘top’. If he doesn’t play, we tried. At least his father tried hard. But it won’t be a problem either, in my opinion.”
Cristiano Jr. has followed his father across Europe, actively training in the prestigious academies of Juventus and Manchester United before moving to the Middle East. Choosing to remain in the Al Nassr system has allowed the young forward to develop steadily in a familiar environment.
On the international stage, the American-born teenager officially chose to represent Portugal, recently making his debut for the U16 squad, being called up to the U17 team and displaying potential for future growth.
While rare, fathers and sons playing professionally on the same team is not unprecedented in football history. Notable examples include Brazilian legend Rivaldo playing alongside his son Rivaldinho at Mogi Mirim, Henrik and Jordan Larsson taking the pitch together in Sweden, and George Eastham Sr. and George Eastham Jr. in Northern Ireland, according to Mark.
