PSL 2026: Steve Smith Fifty Powers Multan Sultans to Win Over Rawalpindi Pindis

Steve Smith's explosive half-century led the Multan Sultans to a convincing six-wicket win over the Rawalpindi Pindis in Match 31 of PSL 11 at the National Bank Stadium on Tuesday. 

 

Facing a challenging target of 167 runs, the Sultans managed to chase it down with four wickets in hand and eight balls to spare. Their innings had a rocky start when opener Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed for 20 runs in the fourth over, leaving the team at just 29 runs. However, Smith, who began the innings a bit cautiously, quickly found his rhythm and took charge of the chase. 

 

He formed a vital 69-run partnership for the second wicket with Josh Philippe, putting the Sultans in a solid position. Smith played a dynamic innings, scoring 56 runs off 31 balls, including five boundaries and three sixes, while Philippe added 17 runs off 19 balls before both were dismissed in quick succession.

At 100/3 in 11.3 overs, with 67 runs still needed from 51 balls, captain Ashton Turner joined Shan Masood at the crease. The pair handled the pressure well, putting together a crucial 57-run partnership that brought the Sultans closer to victory. Masood scored 20 runs off 22 balls before falling to Razaullah in the penultimate over. 

 

Turner then took control, finishing unbeaten on a brisk 37 off 21 balls, ensuring the chase was completed smoothly alongside Arafat Minhas, who chipped in with seven not out. 

 

Earlier, the Rawalpindi Pindis set a total of 166/6 in their 20 overs after a shaky start, losing both openers for just six runs. Mitchell and captain Mohammad Rizwan steadied the innings with a 63-run partnership before Rizwan was dismissed for 26. 

 

Mitchell later teamed up with Sam Billings to add another 52 runs, with Billings scoring 29 off 20 balls. Late fireworks from Dian Forrester, who blasted 37 off just 15 deliveries, boosted the total. Mitchell was the top scorer with an unbeaten 58 off 46 balls. For the Sultans, Mohammad Imran, Peter Siddle, Mohammad Wasim Jr., and Arafat Minhas each took one wicket.
