Strait of Hormuz blockade: Iran losing $500 mn daily, claims Donald Trump

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has now claimed that Iran wants the Strait of Hormuz to be opened immediately as it facing massive economic losses. Trump has indefinitely extended a ceasefire with Tehran as the second round of peace talks between Washington and the Iranian regime remained on hold.

Notably, Trump had said April 21st was the deadline for the temporary ceasefire between US and Iran, however, on the same day, the US president announced that he was extending the ceasefire, but the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz would remain in place.

Iran’s $500 Million Daily Economic Impact

Taking to social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that Iran wants to open the Strait of Hormuz because it generates a daily profit of $500 million.

US President Donald Trump has extended the ceasefire with Iran, while maintaining the blockade around the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that the stated that the closure of the strategic waterway is causing significant losses to Iran’s oil revenue. He wrote that Iran does not want the Hormuz to remain closed because Tehran earns approximately $500 million daily from the route.

Trump claimed Iran is trying to save its image by publicly claiming that it wants the Strait of Hormuz to remain closed. The US president claimed that a few days ago, people came to him and said that Iran wants this route reopened immediately, but he denied their request.

Trump extends ceasefire with Iran pending unified peace proposal

President Trump announced that he agreed to indefinitely extend the ceasefire with Iran at the request of mediator Pakistan. He said the decision was taken to give Tehran’s fractured leadership time to come up with a unified proposal to end war.

Trump’s dramatic announcement came just hours before the two-week ceasefire was set to expire. A US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance was scheduled to Trump extends ceasefire with Iran pending unified peace proposalisit Pakistan Islamabad for peace talks with Iranian interlocutors.

“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our attack on the country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” Trump said in a statement on Tuesday.
