In a video posted on social media, he encouraged fans to celebrate her remarkable life instead of focusing on sadness. He acknowledged his own grief but highlighted the fullness of her journey.

Sonu Nigam asks to focus on celebration over grief

In the video doing the rounds on social media, Sonu Nigam expressed that the late Asha Bhosle’s life should not be viewed through the lens of loss. He questioned whether such a productive and long career was something to mourn. “I am sad that she is gone, but I do not want to make it about sadness. She lived a very full life and worked until the very end. Is this a life to cry for?” He added that every artist dreams of remaining active and relevant for decades, just as Asha Bhosle did. Sonu Nigam revealed his own wish to follow a similar path of longevity in music. He remembered Asha Bhosle as a strict yet rightful mentor in his life, “She was strict, but she had every right. She was our guru.” Her discipline and authority left a deep impact on him as a young singer.

Sonu Nigam recalls heel spur incident from 1996 tour

During their 1996 US tour, Asha Bhosle faced pain from a heel spur. Sonu Nigam, familiar with the condition from his mother’s experience, offered help. Sonu told NDTV, "At that time, there was a spur in her heel. My mother had it too, so I knew how to treat it with my hands. She couldn't stand properly. I told her I know how to fix it. After a few shows, I went to her room and massaged her feet and she got better." He added,"She would keep asking me, 'Do you remember, you massaged my feet there?' And I would say yes, because I had seen my mother go through the same thing. It's like a bone thorn in the heel, caused by calcium overgrowth or something like that."

Late Asha Bhosle’s illustrious career

The late Asha Bhosle’s career stretched over seven decades, starting in the late 1940s. She began with a song for a Marathi film and entered Hindi cinema with “Saawan Aaya” from the 1948 film Chunariya. Over the years, she delivered timeless tracks across genres, including “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja,” “Dum Maro Dum,” and “Chura Liya Hai Tumne," and her songs still remain as a priceless gem in our hearts.
