While traveling by train, many people book their meals along with their tickets and enjoy eating throughout their journey; conversely, there are many who prefer to carry home-cooked food with them. However, carrying home-cooked food can sometimes lead to complications—even resulting in the imposition of a fine. Therefore, you should be careful not to make this mistake during your travels. Otherwise, the journey could prove costly for you, dampening the enjoyment of your trip and leaving your pockets lighter.

Maintaining cleanliness within railway station premises is not only essential for environmental conservation but also mandatory for the safety of passengers. Strict surveillance is being maintained to curb the wrongful practice of littering within railway premises. Continuous action is being taken as part of this ongoing campaign. In a single day, a total of 1,447 cases of littering were detected across various stations of Eastern Railway, resulting in the collection of fines amounting to ₹2,89,400. Such campaigns will continue in the future.

In the Howrah Division, 457 cases were registered, yielding fines of ₹91,400. In the Asansol Division, fines totaling ₹43,400 were collected across 217 cases. The Malda Division saw the collection of ₹31,600 in fines from 158 cases, while the Sealdah Division collected ₹1,23,000 in fines from 615 cases. The collection of these fines serves primarily as a means to raise awareness. Littering within railway premises not only harms the environment but is also a punishable offense.

During this drive, one particular family was traveling by train carrying home-cooked food. They consumed their meal en route but left the leftovers right next to their seats. Railway personnel arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and imposed a fine on them. Therefore, if you plan to travel with home-cooked food in the future, be sure to remain vigilant. The Railways stated that every passenger should consider it their duty to maintain cleanliness within railway premises and refrain from littering anywhere; otherwise, a fine will be imposed.
