Tehran, April 22. US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire that was ending on Wednesday amid Iran’s reluctance towards the second round of talks. But just hours after Trump’s announcement, Iran started attacking again.

Iran’s paramilitary force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, fired on a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz. This caused damage to the ship and tensions increased further after the ceasefire talks in Pakistan were cancelled. United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said the attack occurred at around 7.55 am. In this attack, a guard gunboat targeted the ship without any prior warning.

The ship was damaged, but no injuries were reported

According to the information received, there is no news of anyone being injured in this incident nor is there any damage to the environment. However, Iran has not yet taken responsibility for this incident. The report said an IRGC boat approached the ship about 15 nautical miles off the coast and Oman and then opened fire. This caused ‘heavy damage’ to the ship’s ‘bridge’ (control room).

It is noteworthy that commercial traffic in the Strait of Hormuz was almost completely stopped on Tuesday. However, in recent days some Iranian oil tankers have managed to bypass the US blockade.

America had recently seized an Iranian container ship

This development has come to light after recent actions taken by America. The United States seized an Iranian container ship after a weekend shootout, and also boarded an oil tanker linked to Iran’s oil trade in the Indian Ocean.

This ship has been identified as ‘Tauska’. The USS Spruance prevented this when it issued an ‘appropriate warning’, according to officials. Donald Trump said the ship was disabled after its crew disobeyed orders. He claimed that US forces had ‘punched a hole in the engine room’ of the ship to stop it. The ship is now in the custody of United States Marine Corps personnel.

Iran’s condition – talks are possible only if America completely lifts the sanctions.

Meanwhile, Trump announced on Tuesday that the ceasefire with Iran would be extended, but also made it clear that the US naval blockade would continue. Iran says that it is ready to talk only after the blockade is lifted. It is being told that Amir Saeed Iravani has made this stand of Iran clear. He said the talks would entirely depend on the removal of sanctions imposed by the US.
