The visionary world of Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) is currently witnessing a complex reshuffling of priorities as two of his most anticipated projects, Baiju Bawra and the Madhubala biopichit unexpected roadblocks. Despite the filmmaker’s reputation for mounting grand spectacles, the latest industry updates suggest that casting conflicts and commercial concerns have pushed these ambitious narratives into a state of temporary limbo.

According to reports by Always bollywood, the musical epic Baiju Bawra is facing a significant casting vacuum. While the project was once the talk of the town, the current lineup remains uncertain. Ranbir Kapoor is reportedly not being considered for the project at this stage, while Ranveer Singhwho was previously in advanced discussions, is no longer on board. Adding to the complications, Vicky Kaushal is currently unavailable due to intense scheduling conflicts. With three of Bollywood’s leading men out of the immediate running, the search for the titular legendary musician continues.

However, amidst the uncertainty, one constant remains: Alia Bhatt. Bhansali has been particularly impressed with her performance in the ongoing Love & War, and she is expected to feature prominently in his next directorial venture, regardless of which project takes flight first.

Parallel to this, Bhansali has been contemplating stepping in to direct the highly discussed Madhubala biopic. While the iconic role of the ‘Venus of Indian Cinema’ has sparked immense curiosity, the filmmaker reportedly harbors doubts regarding its commercial viability. Interestingly, Sara Arjun—who garnered praise for her performance in Ponniyin Selvan—is being discussed as a likely lead for the biopic. Even if the biopic remains stalled, sources suggest that Sara may still collaborate with SLB in a significant role in a future directorial.

For now, the maestro seems to be focusing his creative energies on ensuring Love & War meets its high expectations, while the fate of his historical and biographical epics remains a subject of intense industry speculation.
