Vung Tau, a beach town about a two-hour drive from downtown Ho Chi Minh City, has emerged as the most searched destination among Vietnamese travelers for the late-April holiday period, which spanned seven days, according to Agoda data.
Searches for Vung Tau for the holidays grew by 101% year-on-year, based on accommodation searches between March 18 and April 1 for check-ins between April 24 and May 2.
As Vietnam faces an early and severe heatwave, with temperatures approaching 40 degrees across much of the country, travelers are increasingly turning to cooler destinations, particularly along the coast.
The central beach city Da Nang ranked second with searches increasing by 89%, followed by other beach cities Phan Thiet (72%) and Nha Trang (96%).

Industry insiders said the growing popularity of Vung Tau highlights a wider shift in Vietnamese travel behavior, with more people opting for shorter, cost-effective trips that prioritize convenience and affordability amid expensive airfares.
Vung Tau has always been one of the hottest destinations in the south during national holidays as crowds flood the three-kilometer-long Bai Sau (Back Beach), also known as Thuy Van beach.
Once cluttered and overrun by vendors and unlicensed businesses, Back Beach has transformed in recent years into an open public place that welcomes both locals and tourists.
