2017 Lethpora attack accounted for, NIA seizes property of Jaish terrorist; CRPF soldiers were attacked

NIA Seize Property Of Terrorist: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday seized several properties of a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist. The action is to the 2017 suicide attack on a CRPF camp in which five paramilitary personnel were martyred and three were seriously injured.

This attachment action, taken under Section 33 (1) of the Urban Encroachment Act, 1967, in pursuance of the recent orders of the NIA Special Court, Jammu, is a major step towards dismantling the terrorist organizations operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

Land and residential premises confiscated

The immovable properties seized by the NIA include several land parcels and residential premises in Lethpora under Awantipora police station area in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. These properties, believed to be proceeds of terrorism, belonged to accused Faiyaz Ahmed Magare. Faiyaz, a resident of Lethpora, was arrested in connection with the case in February 2019. The NIA had charged him under various sections of the RPC and UA(P) Act in August 2019, and the trial against him is still ongoing.

CRPF was attacked in 2017

The CRPF camp at Lethpora was attacked on the night of 30 December 2017 by three unidentified terrorists armed with sophisticated weapons, explosives and ammunition. All three forcibly entered the camp and attacked the personnel present there, following which they were killed in retaliation.

Revealed in NIA investigation

Investigation by the National Investigation Agency revealed that Faiyaz was an active Over Ground Worker (OGW) of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist organization in South Kashmir. He was involved in meetings with the terrorists who planned and executed the deadly attack on the CRPF centre.

Along with two other Jaish-e-personnel named Noor Mohammad Tantre and Mudasir Ahmed Khan, he had conducted recce of the targeted camp, also collected weapons for Mudasir and later helped him escape from Lethpora. Noor Mohammed was killed in an encounter with security forces before the attack on the CRPF camp, while Mudasir was later killed in another encounter.
