I'm A Celebrity star Beverley Callard has broken her silence after "losing consciousness" moments before her unexpected exit from the ITV show. On Monday night (April 20), Ant and Dec returned to the helm, where they share another explosive day in the South African camp. The day began with a bang when the Coronation Street star woke up feeling a little under the weather.

Fans watched the soap star walk off the set before returning some time later, declaring that the executives had deemed her unfit to continue on the show. Wiping away tears, the 69-year-old actress said she was "absolutely gutted and wanted to finish" her time on the show to "prove that older women could do it."

The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in February, just months after she returned to the UK. On Tuesday (April 21), the TV favourite took to Instagram to share her emotional reaction to her departure with her loyal legion of fans.

She began: "Well, I've just watched my exit on I'm A Celeb, and it made me cry all over again because, of course, I didn't know then that I had cancer, but I just knew that it was the last couple of days there that I'd not felt very well.

"And so, what happened was I was called into the Bush Telegraph, and apparently I lost consciousness for a little while, and I went yondalee as they say, and I just wasn't feeling myself. They took me to a medical hut; they were amazing, they really looked after me, and then they said, 'You can't go back'."

Forcing back tears, she went on: "I said, 'Don't send me home, I'm sure I'll be fine'. I've jumped out of a plane, I've hung off a cliff. And I did want to succeed and make it through to the end, but that was the start of everything, really, so it's made me really emotional. But I will beat this, I will beat it."

Beneath the post, Callard, who is best known for her role as Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, wrote: "That was such an emotional watch... especially knowing what I know now. I wanted to prove that age is just a number, and I feel so proud of what I achieved. Just to get through this real-life trial now."

Since she announced her breast cancer diagnosis, the actress has documented her cancer journey online, including her recent surgery to remove the cancer. The soap star was flooded with support from fans and her fellow I'm A Celeb stars online, with Ashley Roberts leading the charge, posting: "You did prove that, Bev. Sending love and so proud of you."

Loose Women star Coleen Nolan added: "So proud of you, Bev [heart emoji]" as comedian Jon Richardson chimed in with: "Sending love, Beverley."
