Mumbai Indians' defeat to CSK also brought further concerns over Rohit Sharma's career in the T20 format and he did not feature in the Playing XI for Thursday's encounter against Chennai Super Kings.
However former India opener Virender Sehwag didn't mince his words during his chat on Rohit's form and role in T20 cricket, he highlighted the former India captain hasn't been a great IPL player consistently for the last 10 years and that perhaps it was time for him to make way.
Sehwag told Cricbuzz:
"If you look at Rohit's IPL numbers in the last 10 years, he scored more than 400 runs only once. So he is not the kind of player who thinks that I need to score 500 or 700 runs. If he thinks he might. When he became the Indian captain, he said that he wanted to be the player who wants to cash in on the powerplay and take the chances, so he wanted to make all the sacrifices alone, but he is not considering the fact that at the end of the day when he is not performing, it is your legacy that is getting hurt."
Sehwag told
"Ab uska jaane ka time aa gaya ( It's already time for him to retire) and before retiring you would want to give fans something to remember you by and not moments that force them to think why are they not dropping him."

Mumbai Indians' Season Slips Further
After registering a win in their opening game of IPL 2026 against KKR, the Mumbai Indians had a poor showing thereafter as they have lost all of their last three games. This defeat has placed the Mumbai Indians in 8th position in the IPL standings a position that reflects their current form.
The exclusion of Rohit from the playing eleven has only added to the woes. The different combinations the team has tried have not worked as the batting order has looked clueless and vulnerable. However there is still no clarity over Rohit's inclusion in the squad in the upcoming matches as the IPL is heading towards its crucial stage and Mumbai Indians need some sort of turnaround to qualify.
This recent trend of failing to perform under pressure for Rohit has sparked questions about his longevity in the format and though the Mumbai Indians possess an experienced squad under Rohit, his poor run of form in T20s is being talked about a lot more than his achievements. Mumbai Indians are scheduled to play Sunrisers Hyderabad next on 29th April, and it would be interesting to see if Rohit is included in the squad.
