A royal author has claimed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can't take criticism after they called his new book "deranged". Tom Bower, author of Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family, spoke to The Daily Expresso podcast about The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, including their reaction to his book.

After parts of the book were serialised in The Times earlier this year before its publication in March, Harry and Meghan's team released a savage statement in response to claims in the book. The statement claimed Bower had "long crossed the line from criticism into fixation", reading: "This is someone who has publicly stated, 'the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,' language that speaks for itself.

"He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met. Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him."

While Bower seems unphased by the couple's attack against his book, he told The Daily Expresso that the couple simply can't take criticism.

He also made a brutal remark about Harry's reading abilities, claiming he "can't read a book".

Bower said: "I mean, Harry can't read a book, he never has. And I don't think Meghan reads many books either. But what I take from it is this (the statement), that the thing with Harry and Meghan is that they think only their narrative, only their story should be accepted.

"They can't take it that somebody could criticise them, that someone could question them."

Bower also claimed in the podcast that Harry and Meghan are not set to break-up anytime soon, despite rumours, and suggested that their relationship is mutually beneficial for them both in terms of "business".

He claimed: "I think it's a relationship based on a good business understanding. He needs her, because he's a lonely sad man, and she needs the label."

Harry and Meghan have not made any more statements regarding Bower's book or anything he has since said.
