In a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter on Saturday, Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer showcased his exceptional chasing ability against Delhi Capitals (DC). Following a remarkable innings of 152* by KL Rahul, Iyer remained composed under pressure, scoring an impressive 71* off just 36 deliveries, which included three fours and seven sixes, achieving a strike rate exceeding 197.

Since the 2024 season, where he led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a title victory, Iyer has excelled in run chases. He has accumulated 692 runs across 15 innings, boasting an average of 138.40 and a strike rate of 175.68, featuring eight half-centuries. Only Virat Kohli surpasses him with 699 runs in 12 innings at an average of 99.85 and a strike rate of 151.95, including nine fifties.

Irfan Pathan, a former Indian cricketer, took to X to commend Iyer's performance, stating, "After Virat Kohli, if anyone deserves the 'chase master' title, it's Shreyas Iyer. He remains calm, composed, and clutch under pressure every time."

Mohammad Kaif also expressed admiration, tweeting, "Shreyas Iyer, the Sarpanch, leads from the front, consistently delivering match-winning performances year after year."

Following this victory, PBKS remains unbeaten with six wins and one no result, accumulating 13 points. In contrast, DC sits in sixth place with three wins and four losses, totaling six points.

PBKS surpassed their previous record of chasing down 262 runs against KKR in the 2024 season. In this match, after DC chose to bat first, a remarkable 220-run partnership between KL Rahul (152* off 67 balls, with 16 fours and nine sixes) and Nitish Rana (91* off 44 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes) propelled DC to a total of 264/2.

PBKS responded vigorously, with Priyansh Arya scoring 43 off 17 balls (two fours and five sixes) and Prabhsimran Singh contributing 76 off 26 balls (nine fours and five sixes) during the powerplay. Iyer's 71* off 36 balls, along with partnerships with Nehal Wadhera (25) and Shashank Singh (19*), led PBKS to complete the chase in just 18.5 overs, winning by six wickets.
