IPL 2026 T20 Changing Trends: T20 cricket has now reached a stage where the figures on the scoreboard are not enough to decide victory or defeat. What cricket fans have seen in the current season is a sign of a big change in the history of T20. Now ‘200 Plus’ Even having a score of 100,000 cannot be considered a guarantee of victory. Looking at the last few matches, it seems to be the same. The captain and the bowler are shocked by this new trend.

figures that testify

If we look at the statistics of the current season, it becomes clear that cricket has completely changed. So far in the IPL 2026 tournament, teams have scored more than 200 a total of 31 times, which is a big record in itself. Not only this, 9 times teams have been successful in achieving a target of more than 200, which is equal to the old record of the league. If we talk about centuries, 8 centuries have been scored in 36 matches, whereas in the entire last season, a total of 14 centuries were scored. There is still half the journey left, hopefully more centuries will be scored.

New strategy for 12 overs

The level of aggression in T-20 has increased so much that teams are now competing to cross the 100-run mark even before 12 overs. If we look at the statistics, out of 72 innings of 36 matches, in 54 innings the fast batting teams had scored 100 runs even before the end of 12 overs. This constitutes 75 percent of the total matches. If we look at it comparatively, in the last season this figure was around 65 percent, which clearly shows that the batsmen are now playing more aggressively than before.

KL Rahul: A legend in the new mold

In this changing cricket, even experienced players are molding themselves into a new mold. KL Rahul of Delhi is the biggest example of this. 34-year-old Rahul has proved his mettle by becoming the first Indian batsman to score 150 plus. He not only played fast innings, but also gave a befitting reply to those critics who considered him a slow player by hitting 25 fours during his batting. Rahul’s strike rate has been 187.89 and he has strengthened his place among the top three batsmen by scoring 357 runs so far.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi: Cricket’s ‘Wonder Boy’

This season has been dominated by uncapped players (those who have not played any international matches). 15 year old ‘Wonder Boy’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi has surprised the cricket world with his fearless game. Vaibhav has the ability to target the first ball of even the biggest bowlers. He proved that he is ready to play under any level of pressure by hitting sixes on the first ball of legendary bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins.

Vaibhav has proved his talent by scoring a century in just 36 balls. During this period, he hit 26 boundaries, out of which he took the ball across the boundary line on 1.2 balls. The way he scored runs even against experienced bowlers like Hazlewood and Narine shows his fearless nature.

The new art of goal pursuit

Now the meaning of run chasing has also started changing. Punjab Kings achieved the biggest successful target in T20 history against Delhi Capitals. Similarly, Sunrisers Hyderabad showed that even big scores are no longer safe by chasing a target of more than 220 against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. Players like Prabhasimran and Priyansh are also working as a strength for the teams in this new aggressive phase.

This season of IPL has made it clear that T-20 cricket has now become a batsman’s game, where ‘defense’ is the key. More than ‘attacks’ Emphasis is being placed on. Its effect is clearly visible in the points table and results of matches also. The brilliant performance of the uncapped players and the new attitude of the experienced players shows that T20 cricket is going to be even more exciting and fast in the coming times. Now victory belongs to the one who maintains his aggression till the last ball.
