Aldi has confirmed opening times for the upcoming May Bank holiday, revealing the quietest times for shoppers to visit stores in the lead-up to the long weekend. Shoppers are advised that the quietest times to pick up their shopping will be between 8am and 9am, or later in the evening, between 7pm and 10pm.

The German supermarket giant's UK stores will be open from 8am to 10pm on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, before opening from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, May 3. On the bank holiday Monday itself (May 4), Aldi stores will generally be serving customers from 8am until 8pm, though customers are advised to check local store hours online for any variations.

Rachel Geary, communications director at Aldi UK, said: "Bank holiday weekends are a great opportunity to get together with family and friends and enjoy delicious food - whether that's hosting a garden get-together or heading off on a trip with plenty of snacks in tow.

"At Aldi, we've made it easy for shoppers to pick up everything they need at unbeatable value, so they can focus on making the most of the long weekend."

Bank holidays can differ across the four nations that make up the UK, though the upcoming Early May bank holiday and Spring bank holidays (May 25) are recognised across the country.

The two additional breaks will be the last in until August in England and Wales, though other parts of the UK will have additional dates before then.

Aldi is the UK's fourth largest supermarket chain, with more than 1,050 stores across the country. It previously revealed plans to open 40 new stores in 2026 as part of a £370million investment across the country.

The move forms part of the chain's £1.6billion two-year investment strategy announced last year, as Aldi looks to achieve its long-term ambition of having 1,500 UK stores.

Meanwhile, from the start of last month, store Assistants working at its UK branches began earning £13.50 per hour nationally, with those working inside the M25 getting £14.88. Pay increases to £14.47 and £15.20 respectively based on length of service.

Aldi said the change would benefit 28,000 hourly-paid store workers, marking the second pay rise for Aldi teams in 2026 alone, after January's announcement of enhanced rates and extended maternity pay to 26 weeks at full pay.

Aldi says its new rates are higher than those of all its competitors, though its rivals have also boosted pay for in-store workers this year.
