Tony Burke: A Proud SRK Fan

For the devoted followers of Shah Rukh Khan, affectionately known as SRKians, Om Shanti Om transcends mere cinema; it embodies a deep emotional connection. Years after its release, this film, directed by Farah Khan, continues to be a fan favorite. From SRK's portrayal of Om to iconic lines like "Picture abhi baaki hai, mere dost," audiences frequently revisit this classic. Interestingly, an Australian politician shares this admiration for the film. Tony Burke, the Home Affairs Minister of Australia, has openly expressed his fondness for Om Shanti Om and SRK. A video featuring him has gained popularity on social media, where he discusses his favorite Bollywood films and his admiration for the superstar.

Tony Burke's Bollywood Favorites

During a conversation with Pawan Luthra, Burke was asked about his preferred Bollywood movies. He enthusiastically declared, "I am a massive Shah Rukh Khan fan, so let me start with that. I also adore AR Rahman’s music." He mentioned his bias towards Chak De! India, noting its filming location in Australia. When asked if he supported India while watching the sports drama, he humorously replied, "No, no, although I did cheer for India in Lagaan. But for Chak De! India, I was rooting for Australia." He also praised Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan's epic film, Jodha Akhbar, calling it phenomenal.

Burke further revealed, "The last film I want to mention isn't just my favorite Bollywood film; it’s actually my all-time favorite, which is Om Shanti Om. The story holds a unique beauty. There’s a line that resonates deeply, used twice in the film, which I find incredibly simple yet beautiful: 'If it’s not happy, it’s not the end; the story isn’t over yet.'"

The Timeless Appeal of Om Shanti Om

He emphasized that this dialogue remains pertinent today, especially in challenging times. Released in 2007, Om Shanti Om has significantly influenced desi pop culture over the years. The film, directed by Farah Khan, also featured Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, and Kirron Kher in pivotal roles. Do you share the same love for this SRK classic? Let us know!
