Donald Trump has claimed his mother "had a crush on Charles in an unexpected confession during the royal couple's state visit. The US president made the admission during a speech outside the White House, with the King, Queen Camilla and Melania Trump seated behind him as he spoke.

Mr Trump presented a humourous tone throughout his speech, detailing his family's relationship with the British monarch, and that his mother "loved the Royal Family. He said: "Any time the Queen was involved in a ceremony... my mother would be glued to the television, and she'd say 'look Donald, look how beautiful that is'. She really did love the family... but I also remember her saying very clearly, Charles... he's so cute... my mother had a crush on Charles. Can you believe it?"
