Pakistani Petroleum Minister praised India's oil storage capacity. He said that Pakistan does not have even 1 day of strategic oil reserves, whereas India has huge reserves to meet the needs of 60-70 days.
Islamabad: On one hand, while India's opposition is raising questions on the government regarding oil management amid the Middle East crisis, on the other hand, Pakistan's Petroleum Minister Ali Malik has praised India's oil storage capacity. He also expressed concern over the poor condition of his country and said that Pakistan does not have strategic oil reserves to meet even one day's needs.
Pak minister told the pathetic condition of the country
In an interview given to Sama TV, Ali Malik told the whole story of Pakistan's oil crisis. He said, 'At present there is commercial crude oil in our country to meet the needs of only 5-7 days. Oil selling companies also have stock for only 20-21 days. We do not have any strategic oil reserves to meet our needs even for a day.
In the same conversation, he praised India and said, 'India has enough crude oil reserves to meet the demand for 60-70 days. With just one signing, this much oil can come into the market.
What is strategic reserves?
In fact, apart from its daily needs, every country creates large storages under the ground to deal with any global crisis or emergency like interruption in oil supply. These are called strategic oil reserves. When needed, oil is extracted from it and used. India has such huge underground oil reserves in Mangaluru, Padur in Karnataka and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Their total storage capacity is 53.3 lakh metric tons i.e. 3.69 crore (36.92 million) barrels. This can meet the country's needs for 60 to 70 days.
