Society is changing, people are moving forward. But this incident in Sagar district shows that old thinking is still alive in some places. A young man made a new beginning by marrying a widowed woman, but this step became a problem for him.

After a marriage that people could appreciate, the couple was isolated from the village. The only reason was that he did not organize a feast for the villagers. Now this matter has reached the administration and the hope of justice is from there.

social exclusion after widow remarriage

This case, which came to light from Chitaura village of Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, is not just a problem of one family, but is a mirror for the entire society. Here a young man married a widow woman under the Chief Minister Kalyani Marriage Scheme.

After marriage, both husband and wife were living a normal life, but some people of the village did not accept this. Gradually, pressure was created that to live in the society, he would have to host a feast for the entire village. When the couple refused to accept this condition, a verdict of social boycott was passed against them. After this social boycott, the couple found it difficult to live in the village. Along with them, the woman’s little daughter also became a victim of this decision.

Tradition or pressure?

Some people of the village called this whole matter a tradition. He said that after the widow’s marriage, it is necessary to organize a feast to gain acceptance in the society. But the question arises whether it is right to force someone in the name of tradition? Are such rules necessary to live in society?

Victim youth Rajendra Patel says that he married as per his capacity and did not harm anyone. Yet such conditions were imposed on them which were not possible for them. This incident made it clear that even today in many places the social pressure is so high that people are not able to take decisions on their own free will.

Mental torture and family separation

The victim couple has alleged that they are being continuously mentally harassed. The people of the village are keeping distance from him and he is not invited to any social program.

The biggest impact has been on that innocent girl, who is not even being allowed to play with other children. This situation is not only sad but also shows the insensitive attitude of the society.

The family says that they are facing many difficulties in everyday life also. No one comes to their house nor does they get help in any work.

Appeal for justice from the collector

After continuously increasing problems, the couple reached Sagar Collector office and lodged a complaint. He has demanded from the administration that strict action should be taken against the culprits and they should be given security.

The administration has taken the matter seriously and has started investigation. Now it has to be seen what steps the administration takes in this matter and how long will the victim’s family get relief. This is not just a matter of one village, but of all those places where even today pressure is exerted on people in the name of society.
