According to reports, the incident took place on April 24, when a high-profile match was being played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. It is alleged that the two individuals deliberately damaged the network video recorder system and essential fiber optic links. Due to this, more than 240 cameras of the stadium suddenly went offline and there was a major breach in the security system.
The arrested accused have been identified as 37-year-old Manjunath and 19-year-old Abdul Kalam. Manjunath is a resident of Hiriyur in Chitradurga district of Karnataka, while Abdul Kalam is said to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. Both were employees of a sub-vendor company, which was given the work of digital and surveillance services of the stadium.
The complaint in this case was lodged by Aditya Bhatt, an employee of Gurugram-based AI surveillance company Stacku Technology Private Limited. The complaint said that both the accused entered the CCTV control room without permission and damaged the equipment present there.
The investigating agencies have also obtained CCTV footage, in which both the accused are seen going around the connection box installed near the control room and parking. The police are now trying to find out what was the real reason behind this vandalism.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that both the employees were angry over the outstanding payment of around Rs 10 lakh. It is said that even after demanding payment several times, the amount was not received, due to which he took this step out of anger. Police have registered a case against both of them for damaging government property and disrupting security. Investigation of the matter is ongoing. On the other hand, in IPL 2026, the matches of this season have been completed at RCB’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. The remaining two home matches of the team will be played in Raipur as per pre-decided arrangements.
