Kathmandu. Nepal’s government airline Nepal Airlines on Thursday officially apologized for wrongly showing Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan in its network map. The airline expressed regret calling the mistake an unintentional error and assured that such mistake will not be repeated in future.
In fact, the airline had shared a network map on its social media platform a day earlier, in which the incorrect position of Jammu and Kashmir was shown. As soon as the map went viral, sharp criticism started on social media. After this the airline immediately removed the post and issued a clarification.
The airline said the mistake was due to a technical error during map selection. According to spokesperson Archana Khadka, Google Map was used while preparing the map, in which the already existing error was inadvertently used. He said that as soon as the mistake was discovered, the post was removed within 2-3 hours and an internal review has been initiated.
Nepal Airlines said in its statement that the error does not reflect the official position of either the Nepalese government or the airline. The company also reiterated that it values strong relations with its neighboring countries and regretted the inconvenience caused by the incident.
This matter has come to light at a time when bilateral relations between India and Nepal remain strong. Relations between the two countries are based on the 1950 Treaty of Peace and Friendship, which includes open borders, economic cooperation and cultural engagement. India is a major development partner of Nepal. India provided $107.8 million in aid to Nepal in fiscal year 2024-25, making it the largest bilateral donor.
Currently many development projects are going on in Nepal with the help of India. Amidst the recent developments, high-level contacts between the two countries are also continuing, which makes it clear that this dispute is not likely to have any major impact on the broader bilateral relations.
