A Heartfelt Farewell in Lalpur

In a poignant incident from Lalpur village in Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh, a mother’s final rites were conducted by her two daughters, challenging deep-rooted societal norms. Despite having four sons, the daughters took it upon themselves to fulfill their mother's last wish after the sons distanced themselves from their responsibilities.

Eighty-five-year-old Harnandi Devi had been unwell for several days and was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi on April 17. After battling for her life on a ventilator for nearly nine days, she passed away on Wednesday morning. Following her death, her daughters, Vimlesh and Shagun, brought her body back to their ancestral village.

Shagun shared with teary eyes that their father served in the Indian Air Force and passed away in 1987. After his death, Harnandi raised her four sons and two daughters alone, facing numerous struggles. Unfortunately, instead of support, she faced betrayal, as her sons allegedly transferred her agricultural land to their names, leaving her and her daughters vulnerable. For years, Harnandi lived with her daughters, whom she had nurtured.

Before her passing, Harnandi expressed her wish in her will that her daughters should perform her last rites. When the time came, Vimlesh and Shagun carried her body to the cremation ground, defying traditional expectations. At the crematorium, they performed the last rites, earning admiration from the villagers present. This act of courage and devotion stands as a testament to the daughters' commitment to their mother, contrasting sharply with the actions of their brothers.
