Nagpur: A technical fault in a lift at a busy mall in Nagpur, Maharashtra, left six people trapped inside on Saturday (May 2). After being stuck for over half an hour and facing suffocation-like conditions, they eventually broke the glass and escaped, avoiding a potentially dangerous situation.
The incident occurred at Fortune Mall in the Sitabuldi area of the city. The lift suddenly stopped midway, leaving the occupants unable to come out. Within a short time, ventilation inside the lift reduced, causing distress among those trapped.
Those inside the lift reportedly contacted the mall management and staff for help, but alleged that no immediate response was received. Although others present at the mall attempted to assist, their efforts were unsuccessful. With no other option, the glass was broken to safely rescue all six individuals.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the episode has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of emergency response systems in public places.
In crowded locations such as malls, proper safety measures and prompt response are critical. The delay by the management in handling the situation has drawn public criticism.
