New Delhi: 9 people died in a horrific fire incident in the capital Delhi late Saturday night. Many people were trapped in the fire incident in a four-storey residential building located in Vivek Vihar area of ​​Shahdara.

The fire department received information about the fire at 3:47 am. As soon as the information was received, 12 fire tenders reached the spot and rescue and fire extinguishing operations were started. According to officials, the fire mainly spread on the second, third and fourth floors of the building.

16 people were rescued in the rescue operation, out of which two were injured. The injured have been admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

Fire officer Mukesh Verma said that the rescue team pulled out people with the help of turntable ladder, cutting tools and other equipment. The rescue operation faced a lot of difficulties due to the grills and bars on the windows in the building. The maximum impact of the fire was seen in the rear part of the building.

In the preliminary investigation, the fire is suspected to have been caused by short circuit or explosion in the air conditioner. However, the exact cause of the fire is being investigated by the police and forensic team. The dead bodies will be identified through DNA testing.

The Chief Minister of Delhi expressed deep grief over this tragic incident and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He said that the injured are being given proper treatment and the administration is fully engaged in relief work.

BJP state president Virendra Sachdeva reached the spot and met the victims’ families. At the same time, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj targeted the Delhi government on this incident.

Local police, DDMA, fire service and other agencies are present at the spot. There were a total of 8 flats in the building. The police is investigating the entire matter.
