There seems to be a tremendous ‘game’ going on in the politics of West Bengal. The trends emerging from the 2026 assembly election results have surprised political pundits. As the counting of votes progressed on Monday morning, the mood in Bengal appeared to have changed. In the latest trends, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is maintaining a strong lead in the state and till the time of writing the news was leading on 193 seats. At the same time, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) seems to be limited to only 95 seats. If one person has emerged as the biggest face at the center of this entire political turmoil, then it is Shubhendu Adhikari.
Actually, Shubhendu Adhikari is the same leader who had defeated Mamata Banerjee on the high-profile seat of Nandigram in the last elections. This time also he is strong on both the fronts of Bhawanipur and Nandigram. There is a close contest between Shubhendu and Mamta in Bhawanipur seat, while in Nandigram he is once again leading. But do you know how much total wealth is owned by this powerful leader who demolished Mamata’s ‘fortress’? The figures revealed in the affidavit given to the Election Commission are quite shocking.
Suvendu Adhikari Networth: Subhendu is not even a millionaire!
In politics, where the wealth of politicians increases by leaps and bounds, the picture of Shubhendu Adhikari’s affidavit tells a different story. It is being told that the total assets of Shubhendu Adhikari are not even Rs 1 crore. According to the information given during the nomination for the assembly elections, the total net worth of Suvendu Adhikari (Suvendu Adhikari Wealth) is approximately Rs 85.87 lakh. The most important thing is that despite being a leader of such stature, he does not have any debt or liability of any kind.
Bank deposits and trust in LIC
If we talk about the movable assets of Subhendu Adhikari, he had only Rs 12,000 in the name of cash. However, he has around Rs 7 lakh deposited in his accounts in different banks like PNB, SBI and IDBI. Shubhendu has chosen traditional paths for investment. He has a total of 6 LIC policies, out of which he has an investment of Rs 6 lakh in one and about Rs 7 lakh in the remaining five.
Apart from this, he has invested Rs 5 lakh in National Savings Certificate (NSC), Rs 2.60 lakh in Kisan Vikas Patra and Rs 60 thousand in Postal Savings. He seems to have little interest in the stock market or bonds, as his investment here is only around Rs 14,000.
Neither sleep at home nor keep your car in the garage.
The most surprising thing that has come to light about Shubhendu Adhikari’s lifestyle is that he does not have any car or bike of his own. Not only this, according to the election affidavit, he does not have any kind of gold or silver jewellery. Often influential leaders have a fleet of expensive vehicles, but Shubhendu seems quite different in this matter.
Talking about immovable property, he has agricultural land worth around Rs 9 lakh and non-agricultural land worth Rs 27 lakh. There is no commercial building in Shubhendu’s name, although he does own three houses/flats, the total value of which was stated in the affidavit to be around Rs 24.75 lakh.
In fact, this simple looking balance sheet of Subhendu Adhikari remains a topic of discussion even for his opponents. At present, the decision of the people of Bengal is coming out of EVMs and Shubhendu once again seems to be moving towards becoming the biggest ‘kingmaker’ or ‘king’ of the state’s politics.
