Sports Desk. Mumbai Indians kept their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive by defeating Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in the 47th match of IPL 2026 on the strength of the stormy innings of former captain Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper batsman Ryan Rickleton.
Batting first after losing the toss, Lucknow Super Giants scored 228 runs losing 5 wickets in 20 overs in the match played at Wankhede Stadium on Monday night. In response, five-time winners Mumbai Indians achieved the target of 229 runs in the 19th over by losing 4 wickets. With this victory, a new record has been registered in the name of Mumbai Indians under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav. This is Mumbai’s biggest run chase in the history of IPL. The previous highest target chased by Mumbai Indians was 221 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the same season and at the same ground.

This is the third win of the Mumbai team this season. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants have suffered their 7th defeat. Rohit Sharma played an inning of 83 runs for Mumbai. In this inning of 44 balls, he hit seven sixes and 6 fours. Whereas Ryan Rickleton scored 83 runs on only 32 balls. For this performance he was given the Man of Match award. Earlier, for Lucknow, Nicholas Puran played an inning of 63 runs in 21 balls, in which he hit 8 sixes and 1 four.
