Today’s hectic life and unhealthy lifestyle is secretly targeting the most important organ of our body i.e. liver. The problem of ‘Fatty Liver’ has now become so common that every second person is in its grip. The surprising thing is that many people associate it only with eating too much fried food, but in reality, some of your seemingly minor daily habits are also accumulating fat in the liver. It is called a ‘silent killer’ because initially its symptoms are not visible, but if ignored, it can cause serious conditions like liver cirrhosis.
1. Excessive craving for sweets can prove costly
Did you know that eating too much sugar can be as dangerous for your liver as alcohol? According to research, things rich in refined sugar and fructose like cold drinks, packaged juices and sweets are the biggest causes of fatty liver. When we eat more sugar than required, our liver is unable to digest that extra sugar and starts converting it into fat. This fat gradually accumulates in the liver cells and makes it sick.
2. Working while sitting for hours and physical inactivity
Nowadays, the ‘work from home’ culture or working in the office sitting at one place for hours is proving to be an enemy for the liver. If you do not do any physical activity or exercise throughout the day, the body’s calories do not burn. Due to this, fat starts accumulating rapidly in the body and the liver becomes unable to process this fat. A sedentary lifestyle slows down the liver function, increasing the risk of fatty liver manifold.
3. Incomplete sleep and disturbed sleep routine
Staying up late at night and waking up late in the morning not only brings dark circles under the eyes but also spoils your metabolism badly. The liver works to cleanse the body of toxins at night. When we don’t get enough sleep, this process gets disrupted. Lack of sleep increases insulin resistance in the body, which directly causes fat accumulation in the liver.
4. Effect of stress and mental fatigue on liver
You may be surprised to know this, but your mental stress also tires your liver. Due to continuous stress, the level of hormones like cortisol increases in the body, which affects the functioning of the liver. Not only this, due to stress people often become victims of ’emotional eating’ and start eating unhealthy things without hunger, which makes the problem of fatty liver more serious.
5. Sudden increase in weight and obesity
Rapid weight gain is the most obvious sign and cause of fatty liver. When body weight is not controlled, extra fat not only appears on the stomach or waist, but it also starts accumulating around the internal organs like the liver. Obesity causes inflammation in the liver, which is called ‘steatohepatitis’ in medical language. Therefore, keeping weight under control is the first condition for a healthy liver.
