Washington. A unique but serious case came to light in America, when a flight faced delay due to a humanoid robot. An atmosphere of chaos was created after a battery of restricted capacity was found inside the robot during security check.
This case pertains to a Southwest Airlines flight which was going from Oakland to San Diego. The approximately 32 kg humanoid robot named “Bebop” was traveling as a passenger along with its team, but during the security check it became a cause of concern for the entire flight.

The security agencies at the airport doubted whether it was safe to take a robot with such heavy and technical equipment as a passenger or not. For this reason, a thorough investigation was started, due to which the flight was halted for about an hour.

During investigation, the real problem came to light regarding the battery installed in the robot. It was found that the lithium battery installed in Bebop had a capacity exceeding the prescribed limit. Generally, batteries up to 100Wh can be easily carried on flights, while batteries with a capacity of more than 160Wh are strictly prohibited.

According to experts, large lithium batteries can cause a situation called “thermal runaway”, in which the battery can suddenly overheat and catch fire. Such an incident during flight can pose a serious threat to both the aircraft and the passengers, so airlines adopt strict rules in this matter.

The battery was tested, capacity confirmed and physically inspected as per safety protocols. The battery was eventually removed from the robot and confiscated, only after which Bebop was allowed to travel on the flight.

During this time, the robot also performed small acts to divert the attention of the passengers, which definitely lightened the atmosphere, but the security agencies refused to take any risk.

According to the report, now the concerned company is trying to get the seized battery back. In future, to carry such devices in flight, it is being planned to send the battery separately through cargo.

This incident shows that as fast as technology is progressing, it has become necessary to strictly follow safety rules – otherwise a small carelessness can become a big danger.
