Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians met at Wankhede Stadium on April 23, and although CSK were comfortable winners, there was one instance that provided tension in the encounter.
It all happened in the 10th over of the Mumbai innings, Jamie Overton and Tilak Varma were seen having a quick on-field argument after the final ball of the 10th over was bowled. The whole issue took a brief pause and garnered attention on the field.
But as soon as Suryakumar Yadav and the umpires walked over and calmed the duo, things seemed to cool down and as you can witness after the match both Overton and Tilak were seen shaking hands with each other.
What Led to the On-Field Argument?
During a later fan interaction, a young fan went on to question Jamie Overton about the argument that took place between the duo. Avoiding to answer, Jamie pointed towards his skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad saying.
"No, no, no. Maybe you should ask Rutu because he was the one causing it. On the previous ball..."
Explaining the reason simply, Gaikwad said Tilak had hammered Overton for a boundary and said a few words to his teammate.
With a smile on his face, Gaikwad said:
"Tilak hit him for four, so I told him, ‘You are bowling very badly. You shouldn’t be here, you should go home.’ That made him angry, and he said a few good words to Tilak, and then they started fighting. As he is from England, he says a lot of good words."

Match Result and Performances
The fight between Overton and Tilak Varma concluded in favor of Overton as far as the match was concerned. Tilak Varma scored 37 runs off 29 balls, but he could not extend his innings and was soon sent packing to the pavilion. Mumbai Indians lost the plot and were all out for a mere 109 runs as CSK managed to win the match by 103 runs.
They played each other once again on May 2 and again, it was Overton who had the better of Tilak. He even broke Tilak's fitness band with a delivery that time around, and checked up on his fitness straight away, showing great sportsmanship.
So far in IPL 2026, Overton has 10 wickets under his name in 8 matches. He has also managed 136 runs in the tournament with a strike rate of 158.14.
CSK, with a slow start to their campaign, seem to have a decent position. Their record is currently 4 wins and 5 defeats, and they are well in the fight for the playoffs. Their next fixture is against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on the 5 th of May.
