Hardik Pandya Ruled Out of IPL 2026? Here is the Update
Cricket Gully | May 5, 2026 10:39 PM CST

The Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their third victory of the IPL 2026 edition against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 6-wickets. This victory felt like a fresh relief to the team after three consecutive defeats. It is worth mentioning that Hardik Pandya missed out on the last match against LSG due to an injury scare, and Suryakumar Yadav captained the side.

The Mumbai Indians have performed poorly so far this season, sitting in the ninth spot on the points table. Hardik’s absence proved to be a vital point for MI, who registered their third win of this season. Rohit Sharma returned after recovering from his hamstring injury. While chasing a target of 229 runs by LSG, the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton played a huge part in the victory. While Rohit scored 84 runs, Rickelton smashed 83 runs with his bat.

On Hardik’s absence, Rickelton provided some updates on MI’s skipper during the post-match presentation. The Proteas batter revealed that Hardik Pandya suffered a back spasm before the LSG clash. He further told that he is unaware of his injury situation and is still uncertain about his return.

During the post-match presentation, Rickelton said:

“I don't know when he's expected to be back. I found out this afternoon that he had back spasms, so I'm unaware of the extent of it. I don't want to call it an injury; I'm unaware of the extent of how bad it is or what he's feeling. But I'm sure he'll be with the group again as we head to Raipur this week.”

In Hardik’s absence, Suryakumar Yadav led the side for the second time this time. Earlier in the season, Suryakumar led the side against the Delhi Capitals. However, the team suffered a loss in the match. It was their first defeat of the IPL 2026 as well, losing the match at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
